I’m at the point where I’m at the Arabasta arc. I’m wondering at what point will I care about someone else in the crew besides Zoro

I’m on episode 345 and here is my take

This show is incredibly overrated! I got into it thinking it was the best thing ever made, thanks to a lot of friends, but it was a HUGE let down. I don’t mind the length and pacing at all, but I have a lot of other stuff to critique!

There is too much plot armor, not a single character dies outside of flashbacks, including bad guys! This makes fights unenjoyable because I know that after a dragged out episode, the protagonist will win after doing some “cool new move,” very predictable. There are many times where characters should have died! And to see them back to normal after a minute of lying down on the ground just ruins it for me!

Every single character is there for comedic relief, except for Robin which is why she’s my favorite. This makes it really hard to take things seriously. Even a lot of bad guys are there to be funny, which makes the show feel more like a joke.

There has been no character development for any character so far, they’re exactly the same as the episode they were introduced (once again except for robin). Every character is also one dimensional, just 3-4 traits slapped together. I wish they had some depth, and complexity.

The villains are also not very fun to watch. They seem to be driven more by “being bad” than by any clear motives, other than maybe just power. I enjoyed people like Crocodile and Captain Kuro, because they were serious characters with understandable goals.

This next thing is more just me personally, but I don’t find the general story to be very interesting.

That being said, there are redeeming qualities, and things that I love about this show. The ending of every arc is always good, everything always wraps up nicely. The backstories are always amazing, and get me to shed tears. Some of the fight scenes, although it’s just punches kicks and slashes mainly, have cool move that gets me excited. The comedy is also good sometimes, and the OST is great! There are arcs that I have also legitimately enjoyed throughout, those being The Baratie, Arlong Park, Loguetown, Drum Kingdom, the last 10 episodes of Alabasta, Jaya, G-8, the last 10 episodes of Enies Lobby, and post-enies. I wish all the good stuff wasn’t sandwiched by so much predictable boringness.

1st try: I gave up after 10eps cuz the style was too goofy
2nd try: gave up because I didn’t have time to spend
3rd try: no longer giving a shit, currently in ep 53 and this getting better each ep.
    Yeah it’s goofy, yeah it’s weird af but….here is the B U T
as strange as it is, at some point it will get you hooked.
Just keep trying, the right time will come.
Can’t wait to go on on this adventure cuz I’m ready in the third try
